Giz has been going to the Vet’s this past while because he has a growth on his bottom. Today he had surgery to have it removed. We had hoped that this was the only growth and this would be the cure to it (having it removed).
The vet’s office just called me and I talked to the Dr that operated on Giz. she found 3 more lumps up inside his bum but did not remove them, the reason for not removing them is he would end up not being able to use the bathroom if she did and she didn’t want to do that to him. Remember Gizmo is 14 yrs old. So as of today we are going to wait and see and hopefully the other small growths she found will stay the same and not grow into anything else. if they do we’ll have to deal with that when it happens and her opinion is that regardless of age, even if he was just a puppy it would be a less than happy lifestyle for him to have the further surgery. (unless the growths poped OUTSIDE the anus) and he could have them removed like this one was. otherwise basically let him go and enjoy his time with us until it caused problems and then she said she would probably suggest having him put down. Because that would be the kindest thing to do.
so I was a little emotional on the phone with her but she was wonderful telling all of the options and what she would do if he was her pet.
she asked if we wanted the lump sent away for testing, and said that it would cost to have it sent away so if I agreed with what she is saying about not removing them and having him unable to control his bowles then there is no need to send it off, because if it came back cancer then its just another thing to worry ourselves with. So all that being said we are NOT sending it away for testing.
Giz will be home later today once he’s awake and moving around. We’ll likely pick him up around 4:00 pm or so.
He’s going to be sore for a little while but hopefully he will bounce back and be the happy dog we’ve had for the last 14 yrs !
that’s our news for this week.
Aww Ellen I know just how you feel we went through this about 8 years ago with our Fifi, you are doing the right thing by not getting it tested I hope little Gizmo will be alright he is so so cute (hugs)
Poor Gizmo
I hope the others don’t grow or give him any further discomfort. I think I would have made the same decision about finding out.
Going to be a wet day I think, at least it may clear away the humid heat we had all week!
Hugs,
Faye

Hugs for Gizmo
Aww poor little pup, I hope he isn’t in too much pain and hopefully they won’t grow.
I’ll be thinking of you both ((Hugs))
Poor little Gizmo….I hope he’s not going to have too much discomfort and will bounce back soon. I think you made the right decision in not sending it away for testing and not doing more surgery to remove the other growths.
Take care and give Gizmo a little cuddle from me.
