Island News

Well we headed over to Halifax on Tuesday to pick up Loralee, on the way there we lost about a half hour travel time due to some red and blue lights,, ( yep we got a speeding ticket ) we got to the hospital around 5 and got back on the road about 5:30, on the way out of Halifax we got LOST and lost another good amount of time. so it was 10:30 when we got home here, once home we got a bite to eat before bunking down for the night.

the next morning, we all got up and ready for school and work and Lora got ready to go up to the clinic to have her blood drawn,, then she had to drop off papers at the dr’s office and then head to the Drug store for her prescriptions. so we dropped her off on our way to work with address in her pocket to have when she called a cab to come back here and my cell phone in case she needed help.

In the afternoon Tammy Jo came up and took her up to see her Dr who made an appointment for 1:30 for her, and the she took her to the drug store to get the rest of the med’s that weren’t ready when Lora was up the first time. And then Tammy Jo came BACK in and picked me up from work at 4 to give me a drive home . THANK YOU TAMMY JO!!!

After supper Lora and I went up to Walmart and did a few errands while we were gone I took the phone off the hook so Wendell could sleep which he did the whole time we were gone and slept the whole night afterwards too. Lora and I watched some showes we had missed before heading off to bed.

This morning Loralee got up around with us and after we left for work she had some breakfast and then layed back down for a nap. at 11:30 I came home because the nurse was here to fill out all the paperwork we’ll need done to get the ball rolling for her homecare, disability ect . then I headed back to work.

Barb was in today and brought in lots of great info and recipies for Loralee, along with this machine called the traveller, which makes it so Lora can read stuff under it,, what a neat machine !!

THANKS BARB for the thoughtfulness and the great info and of course the great company for Loralee today!!

Nick and DJ were in after I got home from work and we had a little visit with them.

This evening Loralee and I went up to the bulk barn to check out what they have there for the special flours she needs to bake with. and get an idea of how much it is going to cost her.

tomorrow night I might dig out the xmas tree and get that put up,, I don’t plan on decorating the whole house this year, just the tree and the bigger things that I can set out,, (father christms, christmas bears ect).

Saturday and Sunday I hope to sleep in LATE both days,, so will there be much housework done here this weekend NOPE.

Sunday Lora’s daughter is suppose to arrive home. I’m hoping Viv and I can get together and slip away for an hour or so to an Avon and craft day in town here.

I need to catch up on some rest for sure,, tuesday morning at work I kind of scared myself, as I was walking thru the hall I got dizzy and my eyes crossed on me ,, I had to stop and lean on the wall for a few minutes until it passed,, I thought I was going to pass out.. it hasn’t happened since but I’m sure its a sign that I need to take a little me time SOON. which is what I plan on doing this weekend.

Now its time to sit back and watch Survivor !!

Well after waiting all afternoon to hear from the hospital I finally found out Loralee won’t be getting out today, and she’ll only be getting out tomorrow if her I & A levels are up where they want them tomorrow, (blood thinners ).
We haven’t told her that she might NOT get out tomorrow she was pretty upset that she wasn’t getting out today so we figure that we’ll just leave that one alone until we know for sure, if they are good in the morning they will let her out, otherwise she will have to stay in another day or so.

other than that , not much new to report on her at this time.

I was to the dentist today , got that pesky little piece of bone or tooth whatever it was removed, it wasn’t very big when they removed it but it sure caused a lot of discomfort while it was in there.
I’m still waiting for the freezing to come out but my jaw is a little sensitive so I guess another couple of hours and I’ll be all thawed out

In other news,, Karla has been waiting to be matched up with a little sister thru Big Brothers Big Sisters, today she found out that there is a little 8 yr old boy who has been waiting a long time for a big brother and she was asked if she would take a little brother instead, so looks like she’ll have a little brother instead of the little sister, of course it doesn’t matter much to her where its a boy or girl, so she’s just as happy having a little brother :)  She will likely get to meet him within the week. So she’s pretty excited about that, the lady that is looking after getting this all set up said she met him and he’s just a little sweetheart , we can’t wait to meet the little guy.

Looks like Loralee might get home tomorrow, if not tomorrow then Tuesday for sure, we’ll know more at 9 am tomorrow morning,, if she’s released tomorrow they will let me know at 9 when I call but she won’t be “discharged” until about 3 in the afternoon, so that works for us, I can still make my dentist appointment before heading over if she’s out tomorrow.

Talked to her this evening,, and seen a DEFINATE improvement in her memory, she was able to tell me what shows she watched and what they were about, !! She even remembered most of what the dr told her when he was in around suppertime!!  She sounded good too,, not as frustrated as she had been.

I was looking thru the info on the celeic disease and other than breads and baked goods the rest of the foods she eats will be pretty much the same,, we got a list of brand names that are safe for her so that is a big help.

Today we had Viv, Shelton and Ruby in for supper , I did up a pot of chili and some potatoe salad, so we had a good feast.

Last night Wendell and I watched the movie Cars,, we really enjoyed that !! gave us a little time for ourselves which was nice!

Last evening Amber came over and brought a table and chair set for loralee and a couple of shelving units for her to use, and she even took the old set away for us !! THANK YOU AMBER!!

I was over and did a little clean up and freshened up the apartment yesterday as well.  the other day when Elva was over and cleaned out the fridge for Lora, she forgot a few things on the cubboard that she ment to throw out,, that was a pretty stinky mildewy mess   but got it all cleaned up so its all done now.

now I have to put the left over chili into dishes so I can freeze it and then I’m off to bed, going to read a little and get a good nights sleep. morning will be here before we know it !!

Spoke to Lora’s Dr today, tests for Lupus came back positive (they had questioned that diagnosis) her vision test is not back yet, the echo showed the same thing as the last one, so  they are watching that as the “flakes” that are showing on the valve flake off , making sure they don’t cause more clotting, they are regulating her blood thinners and today they found that her protien level was elevated so they are going to do some testing on the kidneys just to make sure nothing is going on there.

Still looking like Monday or Tuesday before she’ll get home.

I talked to Loralee today she seems to be doing pretty good,, she’s wanting to get out she’s tired of the hospital and doesn’t like being there alone but she knows its just a few more days and she’ll be back home. so over all she’s handleing it pretty good.

I have a dentist appointment on Monday,, the last week or so my gum on the right bottom has been bothering me ,, haven’t thought much of it since that’s where my wisdom tooth was pulled a little while back,, anyway yesterday the side of my tongue was hurting and the gum was sore,, I felt with my finger,, I have a piece of bone sticking out of the gum rubbing on my tongue!! and its sore.  so I called my dentist and they want me in first thing monday morning,, so providing we dont’ have to go over to pick up Loralee on Monday I have to go have this looked at. otherwise I’ll have to rebook it for another day.

Sorry for not updating soon everyone, I do get the notices that you are all checking in and I thank you for that

Still waiting  on some final results to come back on Loralee, She seems to be handeling being there without me better today, only a few tears at the end of our phone conversation, she’s  lonesome of course and still scared of what is going to happen when she gets out of hospital, that’s to be expected.

The Dr did call the house today but I was at work by the time I got the message she had left for the day but I have her pager # so I’ll call first thing in the morning to talk to her, I called Loralee and she said there were test results in but couldn’t remember what ones they were or what they told her about them, but she said she didnt’ think it was bad news or anything like that.  and on my message the dr did say nothing wrong just calling to let me know about some test results that came back.

I got home yesterday morning, there were only 3 of us on the shuttle so we arrived an hour early,Viv picked me up at Read’s corner, once I got home I threw my clothes in the washer and made a couple of calls and then dozed off and on while watching some TV. After supper I basically crashed and slept until the alarm went off this morning.

Barb (my niece) called me today and she had done some digging into a disability program that is run here on the island where they provide some financial help and help with any kinds of special things she may need to stay at home,, they try to ensure that if the patient can at all be in their own home they will help make that happen which is good news because from what Lora’s worker was telling me to get someone to come in to help with meals and such they would have to put her in somewhere like Andrew’s Lodge until the memory got better, which Lora said she would do but she didn’t want to lose her apartment, so if the disability people can help on that end she won’t lose the apt and she may even be able to stay at home. We’ll see once we get an appointment for them to assess her.

Willie and Helen have been absolutly wonderful to us thru all of this. I can’t thank them enough for all they have done .

must get to bed , another early morning tomorrow, looks like Lora might get out on Monday, so if she does Nick and I are going to go over and get her.  If I could swing it I’d be going over to see her over the weekend. but $$ are just too tight right now,  I hate that she’s there all by herself but at least its only a few more days.

Will post tomorrow evening after I hear from her Dr.
