TGIF

Ellen | September 29, 2006 | 2:22 pm

Once again friday is upon us another week has gone by, Sunday will be the 1st day of October !!! wow time is flying by FAST.

Had lots of company yesterday, Loralee and Jayce was here for most of the day, Barb stopped in for a visit, and Trina stopped by, after that Viv stopped in with her grandson Ben for a little visit, in between all the company I managed to make a batch of Cinnamon rolls and ham & Cheese rolls.

Still haven’t prepared my apples for the freezer yet, must get that done SOON..

While Barb was in she spotted one of my flower arrangements she really liked and gave me the $ to make one for her, so last night off I went to the good ole Dollarama and got some flowers and accessories to make her arrangement unfortunately I couldn’t get the same flowers as I had in mine, they change them so often its just a be there at the right time to get what you want so I improvised and got lots of fall colors and did a nice one up for her. Amanda was over last night to watch Survivor and CSI, while we watched our shows I worked on the flower arrangement, of course I took it apart 3 or 4 times before I was happy with it,
Hope everyone has a relaxing weekend, I’ll be working tomorrow (inventory) and then I’m off to the St.Elenors Lions Club for a hot turkey supper :)

a little update :

Got my call for work, I return to the Matching program on Nov. 6th and work till March 2, and this year its all days so I won’t have to worry about being put on the evening shift, I have to go in Wednesday to get all the banking info set up again and to sign my contract.  I’m just so Happy I got my call , after reading in the news about the 60 postitions that are being removed from the Center I have cause for concern for my job since most of the people affected by the cut in program are full time workers and they take priority over us “casual” employees which mean they could potentially move into our postitions and we wouldn’t get called back. so for this year I’m safe , no idea what next year will bring they won’t start moving the full time staff until April and I’ll be on layoff again by that time. But for now I GOT MY CALL !! Whoo hoo.

Down poured the rain !

Ellen | September 24, 2006 | 5:53 pm

Well Shan got off this morning, her flight was out of Moncton at a little past noon. Its been so good to have her home even tho it was a very short visit, at least I got to give her hugs !!
Viv and I took my sister and her grandson up to the apple orchards today he was SO excited , his first time ever at an orchard, and the one in Arlington had lots of stuff for the kiddies, animals (stuffed) in the trees all the way in, a “petting Zoo” of stuffed animals lots for the little ones to see, and boy was he excited!! We had a great day I got $4 worth of apples and have lots for freezing for pies and some to eat now. There was this one kind called Joyce that have a slight taste of raspberry to them, got a half dozen of those just to have to munch on.

it started to sprinkle rain just as we were leaving the orchard and by the time we were out of the dirt road and onto the highway again it was a down pour !! Lots of rain on the roads now !! the gardens will like all this rain for sure !

PEI Girl here is the recipe for Whoopie pies,, they are like a chocolate cookie with a rich filling, (think Joe Louis cakes). you can make it as cookies or as a cake and use the filling for between 2 cakes and icing.

Whoopie Pies :

1/2 cup shortening

1 cup white sugar

2 egg yolks

1/2 cup cocoa

1 cup milk

2 cup flour

1 tsp baking powder

dash of salt

1 tsp vanilla

1 tsp baking soda

dash or two of cinnamon

Mix well and drop by spoonful onto greased cookie sheet. cook at 350 .

When done cut each cookie in half (need a top and bottom) and fill.

FILLING :

2 egg whites

sprinkle egg whites with salt, then use electric mixer to make peeks ( like you are making marigain for pies)

add 1 tsp vanilla

1/2 cup shortening

2 cup icing sugar

mix well with electric mixer.

spread in middle of cookies and put cookies back together,

and WHOOPIE there you have it

Woopie Pies  :)

enjoy!!

Great day

Ellen | September 23, 2006 | 1:52 pm

Shan arrived home yesterday, its soo good to see her !! today she is off to attend a wedding and get a visit in with her mom , hopefully the rain will hold off and they will have a great day for the wedding.

This morning after Shan left to go east, I went up town and did a few errands and then picked up my niece and we went and had lunch, so now I’m in the process of thawing more hamburger to get a few more things made for the freezer, I will make 3 meatloaves and a few more sheppards pies today and get those put in the freezer, might even make some “whoopie Pies” I’ll see how ambitious I feel after I get the meatloaves and sheppards pies done :)

I wanted to say thank you to PEI girl and Knittingnanna for stopping by and leaving comments, nice to meet the both of you :)

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend !!

image0021.jpg

one and a half hours later :

well got 4 more sheppards pies made and 4 meatloaves. don’t think I’m going to bother with the Whoopie pies today, I think I’ll actually just sit back and read a good book or work a little on my afghan .  the freezer is slowly starting to fill up, now there are 15 meals in there, 7 sheppards pies, 4 lasgana’s and 4 meatloaves. :)  and of course the desserts, zuccini loaves and lemon loaf.  Its a start anyway will add more in another week or so.
