Island News

Well I have all but one of the flower beds dug up, all the sod hauled away and dumped behind the building, rocks are gone, and the soil has been turned (at least as good as I could get with just a shovel). all the plants from last year are in planters until I get the boards and extra soil/fertilizer put in the beds. Took most of the day to get them dug up but they are done!! even the corners where I want to put my Hosta’s when they arrive.

The only one left to do is the one out by the fence and I’m not 100% sure just what I want to do with that one yet so I’ll wait and think on that for a day or two.

I noticed that my Hosta’s from last year are finally peeking thru the soil and so are my Peonies. 

Next week sometime I hope to start putting the boards around the beds, and getting the new soil dumped in. 

Want it to look half decent when I have my Yard sale next saturday,,, maybe I’ll postpone that until the 14th, I’ll see, it will either be next Saturday or the following Saturday, can’t put it off any longer than that.

I noticed while doing the flower beds I have a LOT of worms out there, I’m told that is a good indication that the soil is fairly rich and this is good for flower beds I don’t know if there is any truth to that or not but I hope its right!!

If I can get the yard looking nice this year, maybe next year I will splurg on a nice table and chair set to go out in the back yard, I noticed WalMart has a nice Wicker set , (2 chairs, a Seate and coffee table) for $200. that would be nice, and a BBQ to really enjoy it all

I am looking forward to enjoying my flower gardens ,,, what are you looking forward to this summer??

Its been blowing here since last night, high winds that sound like the side of the house is coming off!!

I want warm sunshiny days please!! 

I went thru some stuff and made a list of what I’ll put in my Yard sale next weekend. am going to get rid of some unwanted things and hopefully raise some money for the Relay for life, its coming up on June 10th, We’re still working on getting a team together if we can’t get enough people together we’re hopefully going to be able to join in with another team that isn’t full to capasity.

I’ve been pricing wood and supplies I will need to work on my flowerbeds this year, I can’t wait till I can start to work on that project!! if the weather would just co-operate!!

Karla is making plans to go back to Toronto to see MontlyCrue on Aug. 23rd, she is pretty excited about that.

Today is Kevins 25th Birthday!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY KIDDO !!!

I asked that Kevin send me some pictures of him with his birthday gifts so I could scrapbook them, well he sent me pictures and not one shows his face!!

So Kevin dear, I hope you get some actual pictures I can use to scrapbook.  otherwise I guess next year will be simply a nice card to wish you a happy birthday. 

I have a really nice page done of Karla’s birthday and have it framed and hanging up on the wall, and was hopeing to do the same thing with some of Kevins birthday pictures, but the ones sent are absolutly useless.

I hope it was a joke and he’ll be sending the REAL pictures to me. 

I know you like to play jokes Kevin but that isn’t funny.

Is it really to much to ask to have 5 decent pictures to make a memory page???? 

Kevin did do something for his birthday that was very nice he climbed all the stairs in the CN tower to raise money for the wildlife association. he completed his climb in 1 hour and 21 minutes. Good for you Kevin!!!!

Its raining like crazy here today so no outside work for me today, I guess that means I have no excuse not to get my house cleaning done

maybe I’ll even get some transplanting done into some little pots, some of my seedlings are up so high they are getting spindly so they need to be planted soon, but its too soon for them to be planted outside, soooo I guess they will have to be put in pots until its time to put them in the gardens.

well time to get at the cleaning I guess,, just as soon as I finish watching a movie here.

Last couple of days its been hard to tell if its really spring or not !! imagine waking up Thursday morning to ,,,, yep you guessed it ,SNOW!! anyway, hopefully that will be the last of that nasty stuff for a while anyway!!

I’ve got some idea’s on what I want to do for my flower beds around the house this year, I soooo want to have a pretty yard that I can enjoy sitting out in throughout the summer!!

most of my seeds are up (in the green house) and I have a bunch of bulbs coming from Vessy’s yet so I’ll have lots to put out in the gardens anyway

The landlord was in this afternoon and put down some walk way stones,, now I can use the little ones I bought last year (frogs and turtles) for decoration in the gardens this year.

Last night Tammy and I walked down and had a look thru the tradeshow that is going on here, not a lot down there, but there was one booth set up from the art gallery store on water street, and they were advertising that they are opening an outdoor cafe on May 7th, so they will be selling Art, and coffee and pastrys, they wanted people to fill out ballets to help name the cafe, so I put a ballet in and then thought hummm wonder if they have their staff hired for the cafe part of it, so I went back and asked, apparently not yet, so she took my name, I wouldn’t mind working part time in something like that.  So I filled out the ballet and possibly have a job lead, haha.

I’ll be going into the Relay for Life this year, each team member has to raise $100 dollars so I think I’ll have a yard sale and put all the money from that towards my $100 and maybe put a donation box out at the yard sale with the info for the relay and hopefully will get a little donated that way too. I’m trying to think of ways to raise the money so I don’t have to go door to door asking for pledges (I hate doing that).

Anyone have any other suggestions on how to raise money for the cause ??

Today is Wendell’s mom’s birthday and tonight will be her first night at home in her new apartment!! We will be going there after supper to have cake and icecream and put up some blinds on the windows so she has a little more privacy and then she can stay for her first night !! She is looking forward to it for sure!!

Just a few more pictures to hang and all the unpacking and setting up will be completed!!

Over the weekend Wendell and I got new cell phones, great deal on them at Radio Shack (deal ends April 24th) 2 phones for $35.00 this includes 400 daytime minutes (200 each) 2500 between us minutes free evening and weekends AND cause its thru Rogers no long distance on the island!! that was a big selling point for us.

To top all that off with this special you get a stereo system, a portable CD player(walkman) and a collective soul CD.!! How is that for a deal!! our bill when we walked out was $35.30 and our monthly bill will be about $65 for everything on both phones, ( we added call display and voicemail). all in all a great deal, especially with the no long distance on the island that means I can call my family members in the western part of the island free of charge!!

I planted my rose bush yesterday, hopefully it will be ok, there likely will be frost again before the really nice weather gets here but I’m hoping the bush will survive, yesterday was so nice I hung sheets out on the line to dry!!

all my seeds I planted in my little green houses are up only a few that take longer to germinate have yet to poke thru the soil, but others like my morning glory’s are 6 inches high!!

Wendell is off work this week with his back again this time the Dr thinks its a pulled muscle so he’s on some heavy duty meds for that, no driving for him for the week, which means no working for him for the week He goes back to see the Dr Monday (Kevin’s Birthday). Hopefully he’ll be feeling much better by that time.

I rented Hotel Rwanda last night, great movie !! then I watched the features part , the making of hotel rwanda and returning to Rwanda.

if you get a chance you should see the movie, its about the Genicide (sp?) in Africa in 1994.

Makes you stop and think for sure of just how lucky we are that we live where we do and don’t have the worries that those poor people had !!!
